So the quote for today is-
"do not hold me to anything i say for it is possible the moment i posted it, i have changed my mind about it"
Instead seek to understand what you may agree or disagree with. But if you can try not to call it right or wrong, it only existed in one moment and by the nature of its existence it already is. Its correctness is purely an opinion, consider it all wrong or all right i don't mind.
This blog is not always about chiropractic. It is my attempt to add to the collective pool of thoughts and feelings that shape our world. Remember who you are as a person precedes who you are as a chiropractor. So there will be many topics about many things. Before coming to the New Zealand College of Chiropractic I had the great opportunity to work with one of the greatest minds of our time. Mark Dobson helps people gain an understanding on who they are and how they can excel as a natural expression of themselves. We use to run programs for young people looking to implement growth. There was so much information that they could choose from, but i honestly believed that if all you did was take one thing and implement it fully you could dramatically influence your life. And so in reference to anything you learn, ever, try not to go overboard just focus on one thing and do it completely. My old university lecturer Peter Dingle said everything you read take with a grain of salt. An old saying that i didn't really understand, but took to mean don't take the whole lot just take the best bits, it is easier to digest it that way. So how do we focus on the person we wish to be?
Let me finish my first blog with something I learnt while reading a biography of Gandhi. We are presented constantly with new information and knowledge. As a result we are provided with the opportunity to "update our truth' or update our understanding of what we think. Doing this is not always easy though and can be hard to change as a habit. Have you ever been in an argument where at some point your realised the other person is more correct than you. That all of your passion and conviction is just not enough to win this argument. Not sure what to do you continue on as strongly as possible adamantly denying the other person is correct to try and say you are right. Well this is how updating your truth comes into play, the person who is committed to updating their truth, stops arguing immediately and concedes, acknowledging they are wrong. Pretty impressive if you can do it, try and give it a go one day.
You will find that even though your initial point was not right you will have one the argument. An argument is about the power, very rarely the point, this is why it is an argument and not a discussion. If you are in control of the outcome you have the power, and so the best way to change your mind is to simply say "actually your right, i see now how that makes sense". Depending on who they are, they will either let it rest or they will continue to explain their point. But it is not about them, it is your ability to be strong in the face of adversity. This strength will ultimately leave you feeling better. They will think they one the argument and they can that is fine, it was the point they were correct in, and thankfully you have updated your own truth and reached a higher understanding and way of being.
So why even bother doing this. Well if by practice you constantly stop yourself from evolving you will at some point be wrong, distrustful and a liar. Most importantly you will be untrue to yourself. if you lie to yourself you inhibit your growth so it make sense to always leave the door open for being wrong.
It is my goal at some point to contradict what i have previously said in search for a more accurate understanding.
So be strong, change your mind, and realize that nothing I write here is new or original. I believe my thoughts to be a product of my environment and those around me. All credit can go to anyone who wants to claim it if they wish. If it is something that I have obviously in my own mind received from a singular source I will do my best to direct you towards it so that you can learn from the source. There are many books that I would recommend and people's guidance I would refer you to, I have not yet come to the conclusion of why I started this blog, but selfishly i think it is to gain a greater perspective on my own thoughts.
I hope they provide some good pondering as well.
